Our Impact

the social enterprise model

Social enterprises use business solutions to make a positive impact on the world. While often cited as a modern trend, Goodwill has used social enterprise for more than 100 years to help people earn jobs, build their careers, and make positive contributions to their communities. Goodwill’s efficient and self-sustaining donated goods retail model generates revenue through the sale of unwanted goods, and then distributes that revenue locally through the provision of social services that help people find jobs and reach financial stability.

transforming Lives and communities

At Goodwill, we believe that every person should have the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential and participate in and contribute to all aspects of life. Through our employment and training services, we help people from all walks of life gain the skills they need to find jobs and reach financial stability. Having a job positively impacts individuals and their families, which, in turn, benefits the communities in which they live. Goodwill works in partnership with more than 300 nonprofit organizations and employers in the delivery of quality services that meet the needs of the communities we serve. Read Stories of Impact.

environmental impact

Each year, Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina recycles more than 40 million pounds of unwanted goods through its donated goods operations. Goodwill actively seeks ways to reuse and recycle materials to minimize our carbon footprint and provide a helpful service to the community. As part of Goodwill’s commitment to sustainability, we have built nine LEED-Certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) facilities including eight retail stores and a 47,000 square foot operations center in Winston-Salem.

Dell Reconnect, a program operated in partnership with Dell and Goodwill®, enables consumers to responsibly recycle any brand of unwanted computers and computer accessories at no cost. To date, more than 900 million pounds of consumer electronics have been responsibly recycled through Goodwill since the partnership with Dell began in 2004. Learn more.

good neighbor program

Through the Good Neighbor Program initiative, Goodwill works with other nonprofit agencies to address community needs. Assistance is provided in the form of Goodwill gift cards (vouchers) that can be used to purchase items from our retail and outlet stores. The vouchers do not expire, can carry a balance, and can be used at any Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina retail store. Partner with us.
