The annual upcycled fashion show presented by Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina will return to Asheville this April – but like so many things post-Hurricane Helene, the event will be a little different this year.

Color Me Asheville by Goodwill: A Celebration of Healing and Community will take place on Friday, April 4, at The Orange Peel. The show will feature fashion collections made by local design teams using repurposed items found at Goodwill. Ticket proceeds will benefit BeLoved Asheville.

“For several years, our fashion show has showcased Asheville’s artistic community while highlighting the impact of Goodwill’s employment and training services in the region,” said Ginger Salt, Goodwill’s chief communications and public affairs officer. “This year, the event will focus more on our community’s resilience and strength in the aftermath of the storm.”

Salt said that this shift is reflected in the changing of the event’s name this year from “Color Me Goodwill” to “Color Me Asheville by Goodwill.” Also new this year is the partnership with BeLoved Asheville.

“BeLoved Asheville has been one of Goodwill’s valued community partners for several years,” said Lance Crawford, Goodwill’s director of workforce development in Asheville. “We’ve seen firsthand the leadership that BeLoved Asheville has shown in building community to make a direct impact, particularly following Hurricane Helene. When we decided to donate ticket proceeds to support local relief efforts, BeLoved Asheville was the perfect choice.”

Color Me Asheville will include runway collections created by seven design teams, all of whom have designed for the show in previous years. The lineup includes several past winners of the show’s first prize and audience awards. Each design team selects a color on which to base their collection and receives $200 to shop at Goodwill for materials.

The Color Me Asheville design teams are:

  • House of Sconiers
  • Stina Andersen
  • Valentina da Costa
  • The Three Graces
  • McKinney Gough Design
  • MPP McFabricators
  • Sheila Thibodeaux

“We often say that our fashion show celebrates the power of second chances,” Salt said. “This year, that idea takes on new meaning. Goodwill is deeply honored to be able to host this opportunity for our community to collectively reflect on what was lost and celebrate our perseverance.”

Tickets for Color Me Asheville are only available through the Orange Peel box office. Seated tickets are $30 and standing tickets are $25. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.

Please note that only tickets purchase through The Orange Peel box office are valid. Tickets purchased through third-party vendors are not valid and will not be honored.
