Career Connections Centers offer free, personalized services to aid in your job search and job search preparation including resume-writing assistance, application assistance, skills assessment, career coaching, access to computers, help with interviewing skills, and job placement services. We provide assistance and resources to individuals throughout their job searching process. Our center is a resource to our community and individuals needing assistance with their job search. Career Connections also maintains strong relationships with local employers to support hiring needs and host hiring events and job fairs.
Qualifications: Open to the public.
This program is unique in that it provides both job coaching and on-the-job support to ensure the success of each participant served. It provides individualized career development services to address one’s vocational goals. We work toward permanent workplace success by identifying an individual’s strengths, work interests, work behaviors, and training needs. This individualized approach allows our participants an opportunity to become gainfully employed with the assistance and advocacy of an Employment Specialist II (Job Coach), who also provides short-term, on-site job support once employed.
Qualifications: This program is a partnership with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and a referral must be made by them for entrance into this program.
Our program’s mission is to connect United States Armed Forces veterans and their families with the work and support they need. This program is designed to serve those who served by assisting them and their families with the following: assessments and career planning, career coaching, resume preparation, LinkedIn profile setup, job skills training, job placement, and guidance on certifications to support career development.
Qualifications: Must be a veteran of any United States Armed Services branch, a spouse of a veteran, or the dependent of a veteran. Documentation is needed upon enrollment.
This program provides transition services for former offenders during and after incarceration. Project Re-entry works with the NC Department of Public Safety to provide a system of pre- and post-release services that begin with inmates up to 18 months before release. Long-term services continue after the participants are released. Goodwill offers employment and training services that help former offenders find jobs, become gainfully employed, and get acclimated back into their community.
Qualifications: Must have a criminal background.
The Goodwill Self-Enrichment Program aids in teaching and providing information related to social skills, life skills, independent living, and vocational skills. Meetings are offered by appointment at the Goodwill Workforce Development Center. These services are designed for those who would like to enhance these skill sets, or who desire employment and would benefit from additional skills to be successful on the job.
Qualifications: No referrals needed.
The Access Center, in partnership with Mitchell Community College, offers unique opportunities for adults who want to earn a high school diploma. The Adult High School and High School Equivalency programs offer individualized services for students. These services include help from instructors in coursework/testing and support from a Career Coach who will work with the students on their career goals. In addition, students will have opportunities to earn credentials in high-demand skill areas through Mitchell Community College upon completion and receipt of their diploma.
Qualifications: Access Center participants must be 16 years or older and must register with Mitchell Community College and Goodwill to engage in this opportunity.
Goodwill partners with Mitchell Community College and regularly houses some of their classes, such as: CNA I, CNA II, CNA Refresher courses, Phlebotomy, and CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant). For more information please call 704-878-4311.
Work First participants who are referred by the Iredell County Department of Social Services can apply for this two- to three-week program, as determined by their caseworker to fulfill the component of job search training under TANF. Each participant will complete training modules in the following areas: job search, job applications, resume preparation, interviewing, networking, and other soft skills training. In addition to becoming self-sufficient, an overall goal of this program is to assist in job placement services and secure skills that will enhance their ability to sell themselves to employers.
Qualifications: Must be referred through the Iredell County Department of Social Services.
The EDGE (Employment Development Generates Enrichment) program was created to assist those seeking employment and a quick hire who are currently enrolled in a Goodwill program. Our goal is to help individuals with barriers to employment as they seek to become self-sufficient and gain financial independence through placement in our own Goodwill stores and centers. A participant can be in the EDGE Program for up to six months with a strong push for permanent placement within our organization.
Qualifications: Must be enrolled in a Goodwill program.
Virtual services are available in most of our programs. Some services may be limited, but program leaders are available to discuss options with you. You can receive virtual services through phone calls, texts, online meetings, etc. We will tailor our service delivery to meet you where you are.
