After an extensive renovation, the South Asheville Goodwill store had lots to celebrate. The store designated Friday, Oct. 24, as Customer Appreciation Day as a “thank-you” to the loyal shoppers and donors who stuck it out during the store’s renovation.
The store, located at 51 Mills Gap Road, is now the largest Goodwill retail store in Northwest North Carolina, clocking in at 14,206 feet.
Customers stopping by the store Friday enjoyed free coffee and doughnuts in the morning and lunch from a local taco truck in the afternoon. In addition, the day included live music, a sidewalk sale and games. Inside, shoppers could enter a free drawing for raffle prizes held every half hour.
The Customer Appreciation Day also provided an opportunity to learn more about how Goodwill Industries serves the community by providing employment and training programs. Staff members of the Workforce Development Center on Patton Avenue in West Asheville were on hand to share details of its many courses, support resources, and programs designed to help people find jobs and reach financial stability. These programs are largely funded through the sale of donated items in Goodwill’s retail stores.
