Goodwill Date Night is Feb. 1

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina is offering couples a chance to win $200 worth of date night prizes, and all they have to do to be eligible is shop at Goodwill.

“Entering the My Goodwill Date Night Contest is really easy and fun,” said Jaymie Eichorn, vice president of Marketing and Communications for Goodwill. “Just stop by one of three select Goodwill stores on Feb. 1 between 6 and 8 p.m., pick out a free date-night outfit for you and your significant other (any apparel up to $20 total value), then let us take a photo of the two of you while you’re all dressed up. We will post the photos on social media, and one couple from each store will win $200 in prizes.”

The contest was inspired by a Georgia couple whose pictures of their “Goodwill date” went viral on social media last summer. Their post kicked off a trend of couples, families and groups of friends shopping together at Goodwill and then going out on the town in their new outfits.

Contestant photos will be posted on Goodwill’s Facebook page and on Instagram with the hashtag #mygoodwilldatenight. Winners will be determined by social media support and by a Goodwill panel of judges. Facebook and Instagram users can “vote” for their favorite couples by liking, linking and sharing on social media between Feb. 5 and Feb. 9. Winning couples will be notified on Feb. 12 and announced on Goodwill’s Facebook page and Instagram on Feb. 13.

Prizes include gift cards to popular local restaurants, florists, and movie theatres. Total value of each date night prize is $200. There will be one winning couple from each of the three participating Goodwill stores:

Winston-Salem: 208 Jonestown Road, 27104
Asheville: 51 Mills Gap Road, 28803
Hickory: 1877 N Center Street, 28601

“This is just a fun way to remind people that when you shop at Goodwill, you’re supporting Goodwill’s workforce development programs, which help local people find good jobs and get back on their feet,” said Ms. Eichorn.
