Programs and Services
Goodwill’s Buncombe County Career Connections Centers provide comprehensive resources for unemployed and underemployed individuals in the community. The centers offer free one-on-one services to help job seekers secure employment including: Skills Assessments, In-person and Virtual Career Coaching, Resume and Cover Letter writing, and assistance with applications. A wealth of employment resources are available such as computers and bulletin boards with the area’s most recent job openings. There are three offices located in western NC:

Goodwill’s Veteran Services program connects United States Armed Forces Veterans and their families with the work and support they need. This program is designed to serve those who served by assisting them and their families with the following: Assessment and Planning, Career Coaching, Resume Preparation, LinkedIn Profile Setup, Job Skills Training, Career Placement Assistance, and Community Resource Information. In order to become a participant, you must be a Veteran of any United States Armed Service branch, be the spouse of a Veteran, or the dependent of a Veteran. Documentation is needed upon enrollment. Community Access is a comprehensive day support program serving adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Participants engage in a variety of community and facility based activities that assist in developing individuals’ communication, independent living, prevocational, social and other skills. Youth Services programs are designed to walk students through the steps of self-discovery and assist with reaching individualized educational and vocational goals. This program strives to encourage and empower youth to discover their passion and create the life they’ve always dreamed of living. Youth Services offers a unique variety of programs serving youth ages 14 to 24, encompassing educational and career planning, job readiness, workplace mentoring, leadership development, and independent living. Skills Training provides courses designed to quickly and effectively improve students’ marketability in the workforce or prepare them for a new career field. Classes are offered in partnership with Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A-B Tech), Haywood Community College, and Blue Ridge Community College. Training options vary by location. Courses include Nurse Aide I, Personal Care Aide, Hospitality, Computer Basics, GED Preparation, Intro to Human Services, Electronic Health Specialist Records Certification, and more! Financial assistance may be available to those who qualify for tuition based classes. All classes are open to the public. Access Center Adult High School
The Access Center Adult High School is a partnership between Goodwill and Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A-B Tech) that offers a unique opportunity for adults to earn their high school diplomas. Students receive individualized services and support from a career coach to help guide their process to success and job placement assistance. In addition, they receive help from instructors in coursework while earning a credential in a skill area that is in high demand with employers. Project Re-Entry provides transition services that help former offenders find jobs and become productive members of the community. Goodwill partners with the Criminal Justice Department of the Piedmont Triad Regional Council and prisons within the Department of Public Safety to offer a system of pre- and post-release services that begin for participants up to eighteen months prior to release. Long-term services continue after the participants are released including: individual case management, employment training, job search assistance, career coaching, and personal assistance services. The EDGE (Employment Development Generates Enrichment) program is a paid work experience opportunity to assist those with significant barriers to employment in gaining meaningful employment. A participant can be in the EDGE Program for up to 6 months and can gain: working experience, skills training, self-sufficiency coaching, and provides a temporary income. In order to participate in this training opportunity, individuals must be currently enrolled in a program within Goodwill’s Career Center.
