Alicia's Success Story

After Alicia’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, and her grandmother with Alzheimer’s, Alicia knew she had to move to North Carolina to care for them. Although her resume was filled with clerical work, she found the greatest satisfaction in care giving. Alicia enrolled in Personal Care Assistant classes at Goodwill. After graduation, she was immediately hired by Brighton Gardens in Winston-Salem. Today, Alicia’s mother is healthy and the family is thriving. She also plans to enhance her skill set by taking administrative classes at Goodwill. “Hospitals pay top dollar for that,” she says with a smile.

REGIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER

Goodwill's much anticipated Whitaker Regional Operations Center at 2760 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem opened on Thursday, September 3 at 8 a.m. The Center, nicknamed the "ROC", features a Goodwill retail store, a Career Connections Center, and an Outlet Store. The Outlet Store offers an entirely new shopping experience for Goodwill customers with great "buy the pound" deals on clothing, housewares and shoes starting at 59 cents per pound for hard goods and $1.39 for clothing. (Furniture and larger items are priced individually.)

Also housed at the ROC is Reconnect, Goodwill's computer recycling program offered in partnership with Dell, and Goodwill's transportation hub servicing the eastern portion of its territory.

Whitaker Regional Operations Center is designed to the US Green Building Council's stringent LEED standards by local architects at Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification is the national benchmark for high performance green buildings. The certification process takes approximately one year to complete.
