Raynard's Success Story
Raynard was terrified. He was only months away from completing a 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery, but he knew how difficult it would be to fit back into society and find a job.  He heard about Project Re-entry from other guys in his unit.  After attending a few sessions, Raynard was impressed with the people, the training offered and the services available to him after release.  Today, Raynard is working as a cook and making up for lost time with this wife and children.  “I’m thankful for Goodwill.  These people were my support system when I needed encouragement.”

Lenoir Goodwill Store Celebrates the Military

2/24/2009

Goodwill Store - Lenoir - Caldwell County

Lenoir NC

Lenoir, NC – Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina announces a “Support the Troops” Day at it’s location in Lenoir.   This event will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2009 and will feature activities for the entire family.  Customers are invited to attend and show their support of current and former troops at home and abroad.

There will be memorial boards for people to write the names of their loved ones who have served or are currently serving, star stickers and coloring sheets for the children and a form for each veteran to write down and share their favorite war story.  There will also be an information booth with pamphlets about programs available to veterans and their families.  Everyone who attends will receive a yellow ribbon pin to show their support for our troops.

“I would like to have a day in which we, as employees and customers, take some time to remember those who give everything for our freedom” said Amber Caldwell, lead associate for Goodwill’s Lenoir location.  “Not only do I want the troops to be recognized but also the veterans and the families of the troops who have to go through so much while their loved ones are gone.”

The Lenoir Goodwill staff will all be wearing camouflage or military logo to show their support.  The store will be open its normal hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and freshly stocked with items for the occasion.  Revenue generated from the sale of donated items funds career development and training programs that help people find jobs and reach financial stability. In addition to its Lenoir location, Goodwill operates stores in Elkin, Wilkesboro, Boone, King and Mt. Airy. Donations of saleable clothing and household items are accepted at all Goodwill stores.
