Raynard's Success Story
Raynard was terrified. He was only months away from completing a 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery, but he knew how difficult it would be to fit back into society and find a job.  He heard about Project Re-entry from other guys in his unit.  After attending a few sessions, Raynard was impressed with the people, the training offered and the services available to him after release.  Today, Raynard is working as a cook and making up for lost time with this wife and children.  “I’m thankful for Goodwill.  These people were my support system when I needed encouragement.”

JobLink Center Expands to Meet Growing Community Needs

6/19/2009

Workforce Development Center - Winston-Salem - Forsyth County

Winston-Salem NC

Winston-Salem, NC – Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina and the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments announced the expansion of the JobLink/Career Connections Center located on Goodwill’s campus at 2701 University Parkway in Winston-Salem. The new computer lab adds 15 computers to the Centers existing 15 and is dubbed “The Scholastic Academy” because of its emphasis on continuing education. Services include assistance with completion of FAFSA documents, grant and scholarship applications, and college loan applications. In addition, the Academy provides assessments of skills, qualifications, and interests. The expansion will also help accommodate the dramatic increase in the number of people coming to the Center for help. Since January 1, the Center has served over 500 people. “We began to recognize that people coming in were lacking the skill sets needed for competitive employment,” said Anthony Cornell, JobLink/Career Connections manager. “Now we can help prepare individuals to go to school as well as go to work.” The JobLink/Career Connections Center will continue to provide free services to help job seekers secure employment including career counseling, help with job applications, and assistance with resume and cover letter writing. A wealth of employment resources, such as computers with high-speed internet access and interview simulators, is available free of charge. The Center also coordinates and hosts job fairs for companies that need assistance with recruitment and screening of potential hires. The JobLink/Career Connection Center is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Goodwill operates 11 other Career Connections Centers in Alexander, Buncombe, Burke, Catawba, Davidson, Forsyth, Iredell, Rowan, Stokes, Surry and Wilkes Counties.
