David's Success Story
David was homeless and unemployed for years.  Drug and alcohol addiction led to his eventual arrest, but after a short stay in jail, David decided it was time for a change.  After months of recovery meetings, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation referred David to Goodwill to begin training for employment. Today, David is employed as a materials handler and has purchased and begun renovating a home. “Goodwill showed me how to have a better life.  They don’t hand anything to you.  They give you the opportunity to choose a better life for yourself.”

The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the winners of the 23rd Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy® Awards at a banquet and live telecast on Saturday, January 24.  Among the winners was Greensboro-based Deja View Media, Inc. for its work on the Goodwill Industries of Northwest NC corporate video.

"We knew that Goodwill needed to grab peoples' attention,” said Tim Snider, Deja View producer, director and principal. “We thought that Goodwill would be well served by a production that portrayed the human drama of the changed lives that they've been a part of."

Goodwill’s corporate video, titled “Goodwill Is Changing Lives”, earned Deja View the Emmy Award in the Advanced Media Documentary category.  The compelling production features three Goodwill clients who overcame personal and professional hardships to find success in the workplace, financial stability and independence.  The nine-minute video used local actors for reenactments and can be seen at goodwillnwnc.org/aboutGoodwill.cfm.

“Most people know Goodwill by our stores and donation centers,” said Jaymie Eichorn, director of marketing for Goodwill. “Thanks to Deja View, we now have a way to educate people on our true mission through a beautiful and gripping visual journey.”

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is a non-profit, professional organization dedicated to fostering excellence in television. The academy has 19 chapters with 15,000 members nationwide. The Nashville/Midsouth Region encompasses the States of North Carolina (except Asheville), Tennessee, and northern Alabama.
