Raynard's Success Story
Raynard was terrified. He was only months away from completing a 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery, but he knew how difficult it would be to fit back into society and find a job.  He heard about Project Re-entry from other guys in his unit.  After attending a few sessions, Raynard was impressed with the people, the training offered and the services available to him after release.  Today, Raynard is working as a cook and making up for lost time with this wife and children.  “I’m thankful for Goodwill.  These people were my support system when I needed encouragement.”

Goodwill Holds 10th Annual Golf Tournament

3/5/2008

Winston-Salem NC

Goodwill Industries of Northwest N.C. will hold the 10th Annual Goodwill Golf Tournament on Thursday, May 1 at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC. The event is sponsored by over 55 businesses in the area including BB&T Corporation, title sponsor for the fifth consecutive year.

Proceeds from the tournament support Goodwill's Outreach Scholarship Fund which provides training, job placement services and financial assistance for individuals enrolled in Goodwill's skills training classes. The fund also supports Goodwill’s Community Advisory Council’s projects, which encourage individuals to more fully participate in social, cultural, and community life.

In 2007 the tournament involved 60 teams and dozens of volunteers. Goodwill netted over $26,000 for the Scholarship Fund. Walter Cowen, special assistant to the president and chair of the Tournament Planning Committee, is proud of how successful the tournament has become.

“A lot of people are interested in supporting Goodwill and its efforts in the community. The tournament has grown each year thanks to the generous support and contributions from our sponsors and players,” Cowen said.

Goodwill Industries works with employers to meet the needs of local businesses and helps job seekers through an array of workforce development services. Sponsorships and teams are still available! For more information on Goodwill’s golf tournament or to participate contact Walter Cowen at wcowen@goodwillnwnc.org or (336) 724-3621.
