Raynard's Success Story
Raynard was terrified. He was only months away from completing a 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery, but he knew how difficult it would be to fit back into society and find a job.  He heard about Project Re-entry from other guys in his unit.  After attending a few sessions, Raynard was impressed with the people, the training offered and the services available to him after release.  Today, Raynard is working as a cook and making up for lost time with this wife and children.  “I’m thankful for Goodwill.  These people were my support system when I needed encouragement.”

Goodwill Needs Donations

3/6/2008

Between the donation rush at year-end and spring cleaning, Goodwill organizations across the country suffer a shortage of donations; however, the demand remains high.   Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina is urging people to donate clothing and other items to their nearest Goodwill retail store or donation center.

“Donations to Goodwill allow us to provide job training and career services to people who are unemployed or underemployed,” says John Cunningham, Vice President of Retail Operations for Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina.  “Last year, we served over 22,000 people in our training programs and helped more than 2,300 people find jobs and support their families – the community’s support is vital to this effort.”

Items most wanted right now include children’s clothing, shirts, blouses, jeans, dresses, skirts, sweat suits, coats, shoes, towels, sheets, and blankets. Also needed are various household items, including small kitchen appliances, glassware, dishes, and knick-knacks.  Goodwill also accepts computers, printers and monitors – any brand, any condition – at any Goodwill retail store or donation center.
