David's Success Story
David was homeless and unemployed for years.  Drug and alcohol addiction led to his eventual arrest, but after a short stay in jail, David decided it was time for a change.  After months of recovery meetings, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation referred David to Goodwill to begin training for employment. Today, David is employed as a materials handler and has purchased and begun renovating a home. “Goodwill showed me how to have a better life.  They don’t hand anything to you.  They give you the opportunity to choose a better life for yourself.”

Winston-Salem NC

Winston-Salem, NC – Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina is hosting a Community Recycling Day at its Regional Operations Center at 2760 Peters Creek Parkway on Saturday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is offered in partnership with the City of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, Waste Management and Primo Water. The public is invited to bring unwanted computers, electronics and curbside recyclables to the event where they can also learn about other recycling and green initiatives in the community from booth exhibitors including Smart Cork Recycling, Piedmont Environmental Alliance, Business Recycling Services of the Triad, and Jugglebuckets. “Goodwill has been in the recycling business for over 100 years,” said John Leonard, recycling manager for Goodwill. “We are hosting this event to educate the public on green practices and to provide a convenient opportunity to recycle a variety of materials in one place.” Items being collected at the Community Recycling Day include televisions, computers and related equipment, small appliances, electronic toys, cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles, paper and cardboard. Goodwill’s computer recycling program, Reconnect, was launched in partnership with Dell in 2006. The program offers a free and environmentally responsible way for people to recycle unwanted electronics, computers, monitors, printers and related equipment. Donations of these items can be made at any Goodwill store or donation center during regular hours of operation.
