LEED CERTIFICATION

Goodwill has been in the recycling business for over 100 years.  Constructing a "green" building was a natural extension of our mission.  Throughout the planning and designing of the ROC, our goals were to reduce our pull on local resources through reduced energy and water consumption, to improve our facility for the worker and customer and to reduce our affect on the environment.

In 2009, Goodwill opened its Whitaker Regional Operations Center, designed to the US Green Building Council's stringent LEED standards by local architects at Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification is the national benchmark for high performance green buildings.  The facility received its LEED certification in 2011.

Goodwill has since continued its efforts in green construction, building additional facilities to LEED standards including stores in Elkin, Hendersonville and Mocksville.
